Surrey Cheer Champs of Regional Competition

07 February 2012

The Surrey Angels, Team Surrey’s Cheerleading Club, added to their impressive trophy collection with a regional victory at the weekend.

Despite heavy snow early Sunday morning the Surrey Angels set off for a level 3 competition and returned with the well-deserved victory, making them regional champions once again. The Angels will now be looking to retain their title as national champions for the 3rd year running.

Surrey Ultimate also picked up a regional competition victory at the weekend as their women’s squad became south-east champions and will therefore go into the university championships as top seeds.

The Trampolining Club picked up two individual medals at their UWE competition on Sunday, with Amy Rose taking gold and Coley Holbrook landing a silver.

There was a mixture of league and cup BUCS wins for Team Surrey last Wednesday as many teams going back into swing after the festive break. Men’s Football 2nd and 3rd both saw home wins take themselves top of their respective leagues, while the 5th side defeated Roehampton 3rd in a friendly.

There was a double Team Surrey victory for our hockey sides against St. Barts & Royal, with the Men’s 1st side winning 2-1 and Women’s 1st 4-1, taking both teams into the quarter-finals of their cup competitions.

Women’s Badminton 1st travelled to Chichester for their cup competition, progressing to the quarter-finals with a 6-2 win and remaining unbeaten for the season.

While the majority of fixtures were on hiatus over the Christmas and New Year period, there were a few individual competitions and events that still took place. Men’s Rugby Union 1st completed their 9th consecutive win of the season with a 20-18 win against Brighton away from home. Equestrian 2nd had team success with an overall 3rd place and a 4th place for rider Marisa Wiszniewska. Meanwhile at the Warwick Trampoline Open Louise Overall and Natasha Frazer both enjoyed success with great individual performances in the intermediate competition.
