24 January 2012

Guildford City Swimming Club member Marco Loughran has the chance of a lifetime ahead of his as he prepares for Team GB trials later this year.

Marco has recently taken a year out of his studies at the University of Florida, but has resumed training at the Surrey Sports Park with Chief Coach Richard Garfield & his coaching team at Guildford City & the University of Surrey Swim Squad.

His main focus will be to qualify for the GB Olympic Team in the Backstroke events at the Olympic Trials to be held at the British Championships in London in March.

Marco commented: “Guildford City & the University of Surrey offer me world class coaching  plus state of the art facilities. It’s great to be home again - I’m really excited about this final preparation phase and doing my best to realise my dream of competing at the London Olympics”.

The highlight so far of Marco’s illustrious swimming career was representing Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth games in Delhi where he came 4th in the 100m Backstroke final.
