Local Family Complete Channel Swim
11 October 2011

On 27 September, Jack Sutcliffe swam the channel in a relay with three members of his family, under the strict rules of the Channel Swimming Association….no wetsuits and equal amounts of time in the water.
Jack Sutcliffe swims with Guildford City Swimming Clubs at Surrey Sports Park and he and his family spent time training at the Sports Park ahead of the challenge.
The youngest member of the team, William Sutcliffe aged 12, became one of the youngest ever to have swam the channel. The swim took just over 16 hours and was completed at 1015 pm, meaning that each swimmer had swam for 4 hours in water temperatures as low as 14 degrees on one of the biggest tides of the year.
The swim was to raise funds for Cherry Trees, the respite home in Guildford.
