England Lacrosse “Biggest & Brightest” Round-Up
10 October 2011

Following the launch of their “Biggest & Brightest” tournament at Surrey Sports Park earlier this month, England Lacrosse review the day.
Four teams comprising over 60 of the best women’s lacrosse players in the country, including the England Elite and Development squads and the U-19 World Cup team, competed in fast and furious action in the first round matches.
As the players and spectators arrived, there was a real sense of occasion at the Sports Park state-of-the-art facilities, with a giant poster of England’s u-19 captain Ruby Smith adorning the entrance. Spectators could buy stylish programmes and some special England lacrosse merchandise.
The first game was between “Hope”, led by England captain Katy Bennett, and “Glory”. The first half was very close as the teams traded goals, but, in the second half, “Hope” proved stronger, running out winners 14-7. The second match went to the wire with “Honour” edging “Mighty” by 7-6. Each team comprises a mix of players from the different squads.
“They were fantastic games particularly as the conditions were very testing,” said England manager Alex Harle. “The spirit was amazing and players have come from all over the country to take part. The competition gives the younger players a chance to play alongside and against more experienced players and gives the coaching staff the opportunity to see how the players perform under conditions that are as close to international level as we can get.”
Best & Brightest is a round robin tournament with the next two rounds being played on November 6th and March 4th. The Grand final will be played on April 15th. All matches are being played at Surrey Sports Park.
