Sports Park hosts PSUK National Judo Championships
21 September 2011

Surrey Police hosted this year's national Police Sport UK (PSUK) Championships at Surrey Sports Park last week.
PSUK Judo offers competition to all levels of judoka employed within the British Police service, as such 25 forces with 113 entries saw competition in categories from standard IJF, to masters, veterans and kyu grade events.
The standard of judo was particularly high with the majority of contests ending with ippon throws. There were many memorable contests but one in particular must have been between Scott McKeating of Lothian and Borders Police who had won the under 73 kilo category and the over 100 kilo bronze medallist John Ellis of West.
Midlands Police, Scott and John met in the final of the Open Category with Scott throwing John for ippon. PSUK Judo were fortunate to be supported by some of the top referees and tournament officials in the BJA who were entertained to dinner at the presentation ceremonies that evening.
Following the results of the open categories a new PSUK British squad will be selected to represent Great Britain in a triangular match between Britain, Holland and Belgium, in Holland in October.
Chris Hunt, Director of Coaching and Examiners at PSUK Judo said, "Surrey Sports Park was a magnificent venue to host the PSUK National Judo Championships, with outstanding facilities. There was some great judo on show and my thanks go to Andy Grand and his team for organising a fantastic event which will be remembered long after the bruises have faded."
