Third Time in a Row for Tayo

16 September 2011

Guildford Heat coach, Creon Raftopoulos has re-signed 6ft 6in Tayo Ogedengbe for the forthcoming season and will feature in Heat's pre-season friendly tomorrow (Saturday) against USA Select.

Ogedengbe, who has played in the England’s senior men’s team and is a former Under-20 team GB player, joins the Heat for his third successive season.

Tayo Ogedengbe made his mark during the first season at the Heat, when he stepped up as a power forward when Mike Martin was injured. He led the team in field goal percentage, hitting 54.3% of his shots, and had a career high twice of 28 points against Worcester Wolves.

Since his early appearances, Tayo has been a big hit with the fans.  Last season he was he had the team’s sixth man role, being the first player off the bench. He led the second unit in scoring and rebounding.

Heat coach, Creon Raftopoulos commented, “Tayo has an athletic ability which is second to none in this league. His basketball skills improve year on year and I have no doubt that he will have a long career ahead of him in the league. Last season he stepped up on defence. This year I plan to put him in a different role to make him even more productive for the team.

“I am delighted to have four exceptionally talented returning players to the team. Tayo Ogedengbe, Mike Martin, Julius Joseph and Martelle McLemore have all played together and have strong chemistry between them. This will really help as we introduce new players to the team and build on the Heat’s performances from last season.”

Tayo Ogendengbe added, “I am very happy to play my third season for the Heat. I am ready to become a leader this season and bring some silverware to Surrey Sports Park.”

For a chance to see Tayo in action, come to Surrey Sports Park on Saturday 17 September at 7pm where he will be joining some other members of the 2011/2012 Guildford Heat BBL team for a pre-season friendly against USA Select. Adult tickets will be charged at a child ticket rate of £6.50 (£8.50 for a premium seat). Kids will be charged just £1 a ticket (£3 for a premium seat).
