Big Mac is back: Heat announce first season signing
30 August 2011

Coach Creon has announced his first signing of the new season and it’s one that is sure to be a big hit with the fans. That’s right, the Mac is back! Martelle McLemore will be rejoining the Heat for the coming season. Despite stiff competition from other clubs, Martelle has decided to return to the Heat. The 23 year old American guard/forward, who is 6ft 5in, was a huge hit with the fans and was a major contributor to the Heat’s success on and off court last season.
Creon Raftopoulos commented, “Bringing Martelle back to the team this season helps with our continuity. He has already shown that we can count on him on offence and that he was great at shutting down the opposition’s best players. I feel that if he is given more of a scoring role this season, he will be able to deliver.
“I am really excited about having him in the team for another season. He is very committed to the Heat and, despite being courted by other BBL teams, was keen to continue to remain with us. I know he will be a player on a mission to bring the glory days back to Guildford.”
Martelle McLemore added, ““I am delighted to be returning to Guildford Heat. Last season was my first season as a professional player. As I continue to develop as a player at Guildford Heat, I am determined to perfect my skills. I am really looking forward to the forthcoming season and to delivering many winning performances."
In the BBL last season, Martelle was the Heat’s leading scorer, averaging 17.4 points per game as well as hauling down five rebounds per game. He led the team in three-pointers, making a total of 80 and shooting just over 38% from behind the arc. Along with Tayo Ogedengbe, Martelle played in all 33 BBL games last season, leading the team in minutes played.
You can see Martelle in action at the Heat’s first home game on Sunday 2 October at 3pm at Surrey Sports Park when we take on the Plymouth Raiders in the BBL Trophy. Also keep your eyes peeled for details of our pre-season friendly.
