Surrey Sports Park, in conjunction with the England National Lacrosse Team move on with another sporting first when they stage their first International lacrosse match between England and a US touring team from Louisville University, USA on Thursday 2 June at 6.30pm.

The England National Lacrosse team, now under the direction of Head Coach Sarah (Richie) Butt and team manager Alex Harle is made up is made up of a vastly new squad which includes several members from the U21s and an open trials programme alongside experienced players from the 2009 World Cup.  They will come together for the first time since their hugely successful Home Internationals where England dominated the other home nations.  They take on this outstanding team from top 10 US University of Louisville (LU) in what promises to be a clash of the titans.

Louisville (The Cards) – had an awesome season last year and already, Louisville's freshman Monica Negron has been named the ‘BIG EAST’ Defensive Player of the year.   But can she possibly be better than England’s Georgie Hurt who shut out one of the best players in the world, Jen Adams, in the 2009 World Cup.  Senior LU player Liz Lovejoy will go head to head with England’s finest attack players – who will rule the roost??  Will Louisville’s Emily Dashiell, who ranked third in the US on draw controls last year, outrun England’s Lucy Lynch who is arguably the fastest player in the world?   Lynch is said to control the midfield for England – not just with speed, she is also one of the country’s sharpest shooters.

“This Game against the US ‘Big East’ champions will be one of our toughest” said team manger Harle.  “These girls are a top US team and they are here to dominate, so if you want to watch one of the fastest sports on earth – played by the fittest field athletes – be there”.

Paul Blanchard, CEO of Surrey Sports Park said he was “thrilled that The England National Team had chosen to play this match at Surrey Sports Park”. “We see Surrey Sports Park as both a community sports hub and a centre of excellence for national teams to play and promote their sports at an elite level. We are all looking forward to a lot of exciting lacrosse on June 2nd and in the future.”
